RE: RV Parks in St. Louis

dmwtex49, We have stayed at Sundermeier RV Park when driving from Ohio to Kansas City several times and I can recommend it. The park is located on the Missouri side just off MO-370 in St. Charles. This is not a great "camping" experience, is not 'near' Busch Stadium, and is a bit pricey; it may be one to at least consider, however. Quiet, full hookups, and pull-throughs. According to Mapquest it is 31 minutes driving time from there to Busch Stadium (of course traffic and construction may affect this). Here is the link to Sundermeier's: Sundermeier RV Park Good luck and have a great trip!

RE: Ohio Campgrounds

O-H-I-O Go Bucks! We have camped in many of the state parks in Ohio. They all have their pros and cons. When we started camping a number of years ago, we would just visit ones we hadn't yet been to for a weekend. We have not returned to those we didn't care for; others we have visited again. You can explore the surrounding area while you are there. You can do some research on the parks online to see what looks interesting. Here is a link to the map of Ohio with the state parks identified. Clicking on the park will give you lots of info about it, as well as local area attractions. Ohio State Parks Hope this helps!

RE: RV Park Recommendation on I-70 Just West of Indy?

Squealers, We have stayed at the Terre Haute KOA several times. It is ok, certainly nothing special, IMHO. Although I don't think they have full hookups, we enjoyed staying at Cagles Mill Lake/Lieber State Recreational Area this spring, located near Cloverdale, IN a few miles south of I-70 between Terre Haute and Indy. They do have a limited number of pull-throughs. Here is their website. Certainly a much better camping experience than a KOA. Hope this helps and have a great trip!

RE: Places to visit, RI, VT, NH, Mass

jdubh2, As stated earlier in this thread, we just returned to Ohio from a trip to Rhode Island two weeks ago. We also wanted to avoid any NYC congestion. The route we took, after obtaining suggestions from the forum, was easy to travel, with good roads, and no construction of any significance. Part or all of our route may be an option for you: 1) I-80 across PA to I-81, then north on I-81 to I-84 at Scranton. 2) I-84 took us across eastern PA and NY, well north of NYC. 3) South of Hartford, CT we dropped down to I-95 on CT Route 9. 4) Then I-95 north to CT 78 south, just north of Westerly, CT. 5) Lastly, US 1 north along coast to Narragansett, RI. I would probably recommend getting reservations at Fisherman's Memorial SP in advance- couldn't hurt. Although the electric and water areas were not very full over the weekend two weeks ago, the full hookup area was packed. I have just been there the one time- others more familiar with the park may have better information. Hope this helps!

RE: Harrisburg PA to Rhode Island

FFSRacing, nor-easter brings up a good point about I-95. We stayed in Point Judith area at Fisherman's Memorial SP approx. 45 minutes south of Providence. This was the reason for using I-95. Route 6 would seem to be a more direct route out of CT to Providence than I-95 would be. Thanks.

RE: Jeep Wrangler as a toad

RobertB, Have used our 2002 Wrangler 4WD Automatic as a toad since it was new. In my opinion, this was the ideal toad for us. The Jeep has approx. 45,000 driven miles and probably another 45,000 towed miles (38,000 miles on our current camper) with absolutely NO problems whatsoever! We tow 4 wheels down with transfer case in neutral and transmission in park as has already been noted. Including brake buddy, connect and disconnect takes all of 5 minutes. We like the ruggedness and the small size of the Wrangler. The size came in handy two weeks ago trying to find a parking spot in downtown Providence during Waterfire! Hope this helps and good luck!

RE: Using an IPOD to hear music with current built-in speakers

llamalover, I agree with the negative comments re: FM transmitters. I have not had consistent success with them, either. We have an in-dash AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo in the Winnie. We currently use a cassette adapter similar to this one with great success. If you have this type of an "older" unit with cassette capabilities, this may be an option for you. As stated earlier in the thread, you could look for an AUX input behind your unit, or switch out your current unit for one with an AUX/MP3 jack on the front. Hope this helps!

RE: Summer Vacation!!!!!! - Where are you going?

We got an early start this year! Have done short trips to Lieber State Recreational Area in Indiana (Cagle Lake/Cataract Falls) and Danville, Kentucky. Spent spring break at Hilton Head, and just returned from a week in Rhode Island. I think our fuel budget may be spent for the year, though. :(

RE: Places to visit, RI, VT, NH, Mass

jdubh2, We just returned from a trip to Rhode Island yesterday! We stayed at Fisherman's Memorial State Park for five days and can recommend it as well. You are not too far from many of the places to visit in CT, RI, or southern MA. Some of the things we did: 1. Waterfire in Providence. 2. Mystic Seaport. 3. Newport including the Cliff Walk and the International Tennis Hall of Fame. 4. Al Forno- excellent restaurant in Providence. Have a great trip!

RE: any good CG's in San Antonio TX

jeaelectric, I strongly suggest the Blazing Star as well. Have been several times with absolutely no complaints. Very near the entrance to Sea World, and an easy route to downtown. I have heard the Admiralty is also very nice. I have never been to the Admiralty, however. Here are some links: Blazing Star Admiralty Good luck and have a safe trip!

RE: restaurants near Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Park

tc1, When visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes several years ago we took the family to The Bluebird in Leland, MI. Their specialty is Lake Michigan Whitefish. It was excellent. We enjoyed our evening there. Also picked up some of the cinnamon rolls for breakfast the next morning. Here is a link to their website: Bluebird Restaurant As for things to do: there is a scenic drive you could explore, definitely climb the dunes, and check out the sunsets from Leelanau Peninsula. Here is the link for SBD "Things to Do:" Sleeping Bear Dunes Hope this helps. Have a great trip!

RE: Michigan's UP

ksd, Sounds like a great trip! A couple of years ago we took the kids on a similar vacation- headed north along the east coast of Lake Michigan, across the UP, then back south through Wisconsin. Did not stay at any of the state parks/campgrounds you mentioned- we stayed in state parks except while in Traverse City and Munising. 'll take day trips to the Soo Locks, Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, etc. We also plan on taking a Pictured Rocks Lakeshore cruise when we're in Munising. These are all things we did, as well. The Soo Locks cruise and the biking around Mackinac have already been mentioned by others. I might also suggest, if you have an interest, a short drive north of Tahquamenon Falls to Whitefish Bay to see the Shipwreck Museum. We did enjoy that. A drive through Seney National Wildlife Refuge may be of merit to see some of the resident flora and fauna. We also stayed at Fort Wilkins State Park and toured a copper mine between Copper Harbor and Houghton/Hancock. I'm not sure your itinerary will allow a side trip north that far, though. Some final suggestions: be on the lookout for some fantastic sunsets, keep your insect repellant handy at all times, and have an extra pastie for me! :W Good luck and have a great time!

Stever38, I think fireman50 means I-20 from Atlanta to Birmingham. I fully agree with his recommended route: I-10 to 231 to I-65 to 78. Hope this helps, good luck!

RE: Can you buy water gallons at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone?

Mar-d-mar, When we were at Yellowstone a couple of years ago we stayed at Fishing Bridge. Knowing it would be more expensive in the park, we stopped at the Walmart in Cody to stock up on groceries before entering the park for a 5 day stay. We also use the gallon jugs of water for drinking and cooking and purchased some there. The General Store at Fishing Bridge did have a small grocery, which we did use for a few things. I do believe they sold drinking water there but, as I said, it's been several years. Hope this helps, good luck!

RE: Basswood Country RV Resort, Kansas City MO

Garcias Away, I'm from KC originally, and visit family and eat lots of BBQ once or twice a year. My brother still lives there and has a DP. I have never stayed at Basswood, as he said it was nothing special. Not having been there, I cannot confirm this for you. We always camp at Weston Bend SP, on the MO river between Weston and Beverly, not far from Basswood. It is close to where we grew up in KC "north of the river." Small campground, electric only I believe, but we have always enjoyed staying there. It is a nice "camping" experience as opposed to the "RV resort" experience. Here is the link: Weston Bend If you are going to KC to see some sights and would rather be closer to town, I have heard good things about Worlds of Fun Village. It is adjacent to an amusement park and water park and is also "north of the river." It would be a different experience than the state park, of course. Here is the link: Worlds of Fun Hope this helps, good luck!

RE: Yellowstone Questions

nicholas ins and Greentreena, Several years ago we entered Yellowstone from the east. Stayed at Fishing Bridge for 5 days. We had been to YP twice before, but not in the RV. My observations: 1. Entering from Cody on the east side was not a problem for us (see our rig in our sig). It seems like a long drive, but it is a beautiful drive. Take your time. We stayed the night before just east of the park, and went through the gates early in the am. Encountered no lines. 2. Fishing Bridge is great! CENTRALLY located, hookups, laundry, camp store, etc. I agree, not a good "camping" experience but we went to see the park, not sit in or around our camper. We would get up early to look for wildlife. Would stay out until mid afternoon and stop to eat, then back out in the evening for more exploration. 3. We could not see "everything" in five days. That park can WEAR YOU OUT! Lots of walking on the gravel trails and boardwalks. We were there with two younger teens. For a three-day trip with small ones, I would recommend doing your research and hit the highlights. I suspect you will go back when your kids are older like we did! 4. There are some off-the-beaten-path unimproved roads on the maps that you can drive- good for seeing wildlife. Stay in the car around the bison and bears- many don't! We also took our bikes to a geyser that you can only access by hiking or by bike. It erupts every 5-6 hours and erupted just as we arrived! 5. Take lots of pictures; there are not many places like this. Here are a couple of mine. http://gallery.mac.com/kmayfield/100008/P7140030-20copy/web.jpg height=400 width=500 http://gallery.mac.com/kmayfield/100008/P7140033-20copy/web.jpg height=400 width=500 Have a great trip and good luck!
